Retailer Resolves Infrastructure Scaling Problem Using DevOps

Background

A leading fashion establishment wanted to contain their infrastructure scaling problem during peak times and off season. They needed a solution that optimized their infrastructure needs such as server provisioning, configuration management, automated builds, code deployments and monitoring.

The goal was to optimize infrastructure scaling and management without human intervention.

Challenge

  • Code complexities: As complexities related to code and environment increase, infrastructure teams will need to maintain CI systems effectively.
  • Iterative approach to software development: This requires frequent deployment of codes and immediate testing of results.
  • Cost Control: Optimize the operating costs during DevOps infrastructure implementation.

Kloud9 Solution

Using DevOps approach to software development and testing, the client was able to optimize the CI/CD process for a quick time to market of their applications. Our expertise in DevOps tools for various continuous integration/deployment environments facilitates for creating the stable infrastructure. It provides the ability to create environments like Redis, Nat, My SQL, MONGO DB and Jenkins.

The client also leveraged our Artificial Intelligence Driven Infrastructure platform for continuous monitoring of their Cloud infrastructure and allowed for the real-time recommendations for right sizing their cloud infrastructure for peak events. This effectively optimized and lowered their cloud billing costs.

DevOps has the inherent features and functionalities like Reliability, Usability, Efficiency, Maintainability and Portability. This effectively helped the client to automate certain processes involved in the CI/CD and orchestration of applications.

We helped the client achieve DevOps infrastructure automation by repackaging platforms, systems, and applications into reusable building blocks through the use of technologies such as virtual machines and containerization.

Our capabilities in DevOps toolsets can be categorized into the following

  • Infrastructure as Code: Terraform, Ansible, Chef, Puppet, etc.
  • Configuration Management: Consul, Vault etc.
  • Monitoring: Prometheus, Splunk, New Relic etc.
  • Continuous Integration/Deployment: Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes, etc.

After conducting a comprehensive study of the client’s IBM Sterling OMS and its eco-system front, we proposed the following

  • Migration Roadmap that included the migration tools, high level assumptions and risks.
  • Migration Approach Document for On-premises IBM Sterling OMS from current version 9.4 to 9.4 on AWS cloud (like to like migration).
  • Upgrade & Migration Approach Document for IBM Sterling OMS from current version 9.4 to version 9.5 in AWS Cloud.
  • Upgrade & Migration Approach Document for IBM Sterling OMS from current version 9.4 to version 10.0 in AWS Cloud.
  • Testing approach to ensure the migration is successful.

Outcome

The client was able to optimize their infrastructure scaling and management issues for continuous integration/deployment through automation of certain processes using DevOps. Through our Artificial Intelligence Driven Infrastructure platform, they were able to effectively reduce the manual intervention but also ensure security and throughput in the deployment of various microservices in their processes.

In addition, the client was able to leverage Kloud9’s value added services that helped them to realize cost savings.
